As Hyundai seeks to strengthen its presence in the world’s largest electric vehicle market, it has unveiled the new Ioniq V, featuring a distinctive design, a 27-inch display, and an impressive driving range. This raises the question: Is Hyundai aiming to create a competitor to Tesla’s products with this new model?
Hyundai has officially introduced its latest electric vehicle, the Ioniq V. Developed by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture, this all-electric fastback is equipped with a 66.8 kWh LFP battery and can travel up to 650 kilometers on a single charge. The vehicle is scheduled to enter the Chinese market in 2026 and features a 27-inch display along with a 225-horsepower electric motor.
The Hyundai Ioniq V was officially unveiled for the first time at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show. The launch comes as Hyundai works to strengthen its position in the Chinese market. According to China EV DataTracker, Hyundai’s sales in China reached approximately 6,500 units in May, representing an 8.9% decline compared to the same period last year.
Ioniq V Specifications
According to information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the base version of the Hyundai Ioniq V is equipped with a 53.5 kWh LFP battery supplied by CATL. This battery powers a 140 kW electric motor, equivalent to 188 horsepower.
The driving range of this version is rated between 520 and 540 kilometers under the CLTC standard, depending on the equipment level. The battery pack weighs 395 kilograms, while the vehicle’s curb weight ranges between 1,707 and 1,737 kilograms.
The long-range version of the Ioniq V features a 66.8 kWh CATL LFP battery paired with a 168 kW electric motor producing 225 horsepower.
Its driving range is rated between 620 and 650 kilometers under the CLTC standard. The battery pack weighs 465 kilograms, and the vehicle’s curb weight ranges from 1,782 to 1,808 kilograms.
Hyundai has also announced plans to introduce an EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle) version of the Ioniq V in the future.
Design and Features
One of the most striking aspects of the vehicle is undoubtedly its unconventional exterior design. Hyundai has previously demonstrated its willingness to break traditional design boundaries with models such as the Ioniq 5, and given that the new vehicle also carries the Ioniq name, such a bold design approach is not entirely unexpected.
The Hyundai Ioniq V measures 4,900 mm in length, 1,890 mm in width, and 1,470 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Its design incorporates clean, aerodynamic lines, with the hood and windshield forming what appears to be a nearly continuous surface.
Other exterior highlights include semi-concealed door handles and split front headlights. Inside the cabin, a large integrated 27-inch display serves as both the infotainment system and digital instrument cluster.
Advanced Technologies
Hyundai has equipped the Ioniq V with a range of modern technologies. The vehicle features an advanced driver-assistance system developed by Momenta and utilizes an 800-volt electrical architecture, a technology that enables faster charging and improved powertrain performance.
With its technical specifications, long driving range, and modern technologies, the Hyundai Ioniq V has the potential to become one of the Korean automaker’s most significant electric vehicles in China’s highly competitive market.
Finally, considering that many vehicles launched in China eventually find their way into the Iranian market, it would not be surprising if some importers begin bringing the Ioniq V to Iran within the next few years.
